Uzoamaka Okonkwo Installed As President Of Rotary Club Of Awka -Smithtown

Lady Uzoamaka Okonkwo has been installed as the President of Rotary Club of Awka-Smithtown, District 9142, Nigeria.
The ceremony which took place in Awka, attracted Rotarians from across the state as well as well wishers.


Rotary club is a non-governmental and non-denominational organization whose sole objective is to champion the course of the downtrodden in the society.
Lady Okonkwo, who is the fourth and first female President of the Rotary Club of Awka-Smithtown since inception in 2016, is to pilot the affairs of the club for a year.
In his valedictory speech, the immediate past President of the Club, Rotarian Tochi Amalu while listing some of the achievements of the club under his leadership, expressed the hope that his successor would achieve more, as he described her as the best for the position.


He charged the incumbent president and her executive to collectively work for the benefit of the organization and the society at large.
Earlier, an international officer of the Rotary club International, Lady Onyinye Nwachukwu enlightened the people on what Rotary Club stands for, how to become a member, and demands from the members, during which she explained that the organization accommodates people of like minds who love using what they have to put smile on the faces of people and called on them to identify with the club as there is no segregation between the rich and the poor as no money is required for registration.
In an address, the 2019/2020 Installation Committee Chairman, Rotarian Chidi Obiudu emphasized that for one hundred and fourteen years of existence, Rotary Club has remained committed to active service to humanity and would sustain the tempo.


In her acceptance remark, the new President of the Rotary Club of Awka-Smithtown , Rotarian Okonkwo thanked members of the organization for finding her worthy for such position and promised to redefine leadership and to use her new position to justify the saying that “what a man can do, a woman can do it better”.


The Managing Director, Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, ANSIPPA, Mr. Jide Ikeako during the event received community service award alongside the Head, Anambra state Fire Service, Mr. Martin Agbili, Lady Ngozi Adirika and Chief Chinedu Ezeora among others.
