In a move aimed at strengthening public communication and transparency within the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer(FPRO). The appointment, approved by the police leadership, places DCP Placid in charge of managing the public image and communication strategy of the Nigeria Police Force. Born on 2 December 1970 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, DCP Placid hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, and also studied Law at the National Open University of Nigeria. DCP Placid joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Police Academy, Kano, in 1996, and was commissioned in August 1998. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a seasoned officer with vast experience spanning administration, intelligence, operations, training, and international peacekeeping. His career includes several strategic assignments such as Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, PPRO at the Police Staff College Jos, Chief of Training for the African Union Mission in Sudan, and Head of Training and Development with the United Nations Mission in Darfur.
