The Independent National Electoral Commission has revised the timetable for the 2027 General Election, bringing forward key dates to align with the newly enacted Electoral Act, 2026. Under the new schedule, Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on 16th January 2027, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are fixed for 6th February 2027, while Party primaries will run from 23rd April to 30th May, 2026. Campaigns for national offices begin on 19th August 2026, followed by governorship and state assembly campaigns on 9th September 2026, ending 24 hours before polling day. INEC also shifted the Osun Governorship election from 8 August to 15th August 2026, noting that all remaining activities will strictly comply with the Electoral Act, 2026, and called on political actors and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the timelines and ensure peaceful, credible and inclusive elections.
