To usher in the year’s farming season, as is customary in the area, Umunobe Village in Ogbunka Community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has organized the 2026 Oganiru Festival, which attracted residents of the village from within and outside the community, as well as friends and well-wishers from far and wide.
The Oganiru Festival in Umunobe Village Ogbunka usually begins with different activities on designated days, including a general hunting expedition by community hunters, a twenty-one gun salute to flag off the festival, the blessing of farm tools, crops and seeds for the year’s cultivation by clergymen in the community, and ends with cultural dances by different groups, as well as various masquerade displays.

In their separate remarks at this year’s edition of the festival tagged “Oganiru Akanchawa 2026,” the Chairman of Umunobe People’s Association, Hon. Uzochukwu Ikevude, and the Chairman of the Oganiru Festival 2026 Planning Committee, Chief Michael Ezenwa, noted that through their manpower, farmers in the area have continued to make Ogbunka one of the food baskets of the state, and called on the local, state and federal governments to provide them with modern farming tools such as tractors for mechanized and commercial agricultural practice, as well as storage facilities to enable them to scale up their agricultural production for the benefit of a larger population.

Others, including Comrade Chukwuebuka Ukaegbu and Mr. Emeka Onyegbuna, emphasized that Ogbunka is blessed with abundant natural resources, and thanked God for the first rainfall in the area, which they said signifies that everything is set for the 2026 farming season.
Cultural dances by the women of the village also featured at the event.
