Uga Community Celebrates Annual Masquerade Competition

It was a showcase of rich Igbo cultural heritage as masquerades converge at the Annual Masquerade Competition organized by the Ezumezu Mmanwu Uga, during which masquerades from different parts of Uga displayed unique dancing steps and skills that entertained thousands of spectators that filled the arena.

Speaking at the ceremony, the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Stephen Ezenwugo said that the annual Masquerade Competition is one of the festivals that bring people of the community, relations, friends and well wishers together to further cement bond of unity , love and understand among the people and urged the youths to always take pride in their cultural heritage. 

Also speaking, the Chairman of the festival, Chief Onyebuchi Nduba noted that the Competition since it was initiated three years ago has continued to attract people of the community and their children from various parts Of the world to participate actively in cultural activities of Uga, and as well provided opportunity for them to know themselves better and be part of advancing cultural identity, while the Guest of Honour, Chief Ozoemezinam Ezuma from Arondizuogu commended the Uga community for celebrating their cultural heritage and urged other Igbo communities to accord Igbo culture and tradition  necessary pride of place to protect it.

In their separate reactions, some members of the community including , Nze Ifeanyichukwu Ezeanyim, Chief Onyekachukwu Nwabunike and Sir  Micheal Ezechukwu made it clear that the festival has become part of the yuletide activities to entertain people and equally provide opportunity for up coming generations to key into their cultural heritage.
