The member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency at
the House of Representatives, Chief Chinedu Onwuaso in acompanied by
some members of the constituency went to thank God for his mercies and to seek His grace in his four
year term as the member of the ninth National Assembly.
The thanksgiving service, which attracted the Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, a former Governor of Anambra
state Mr Peter Obi and other members of the National and state Houses
of Assembly, took place at both the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith,
Awka and Saint Patrick’s Cathedral respectively.
Speaking during the event, the Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, reiterated the commitment of
the ninth National Assembly to making laws that will have direct
bearing on the masses.
He said that the National Assembly will make a strong case for the
speedy completion of the ongoing federal roads across the country,
especially those in the South East geopolitical zone.
The Speaker, represented on the occasion by the Minority leader, Chief
Ndudi Elumelu said that women and youth empowerment will be given top
priority by the lawmakers in addition to giving the less privileged a
sense of belonging.
He said that as part of efforts to tackle insecurity in the country,
the National Assembly will collaborate with traditional rulers to
ensure safety of lives and property at the local level.
In a remark, the House of Representatives Member, Chief Onwuaso while
thanking members of the constituency for their support and
encouragement promised that members of the National Assembly of Igbo
extraction will form a common front in protecting the interest of
Ndigbo.
He promised to always interface with his constituents with a view to
ascertaining first hand information on their needs and solve them.
In their various reactions, some members of the constituency, including Messrs
Gabriel Moneke, Abuchi Nwozor and Azom Molokwu advised those occupying
elective positions to always carry everybody along irrespective of
religion and party inclinations.
Earlier in a sermon at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith Awka,
Bishop Ken Ifemene of Ikwo Diocese who maintained that promotion only
comes from God, called on those occupying leadership positions to
always lead with the fear of God.
Also at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Monsignor John Paul Nzomiwu called
on those occupying elective positions to ensure effective and
efficient representations and commended Chief Onwuaso for beginning
his legislative assignment with God.
A one-time Presidential Adviser, Senator Ben Ndi Obi, party Chieftains of various
divide also attended the service which featured presentation of a Holy
Bible and special prayer for Chief Onwuaso and other political leaders
by the officiating Ministers.
