Soludo Seeks Collaboration With Town Planners In Urban Regeneration

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has said that the two new cities, Awka Two Point Zero and Onitsha Two Point Zero, coming up next year cannot be successful without the collaboration of Town Planners and other relevant bodies.

Addressing members of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planner, in Awka,while declaring open their twenty sixth edition of “Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Program, Governor Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Lands, Professor Offornze Amucheazi, stated that the state government takes very seriously the job of Town Planners, adding that because of limited land available, his administration is embarking on urban regeneration, as well as ensuring proper planning, without which there will be slums in the state. 

In his keynote speech at the event with the theme; “Developing new frontiers for improved physical planning practice in Nigeria”, the National President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Dr. Ogbonna Chime, described the event as one of the capacity building initiatives of NITP and Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria,  aimed at generating, disseminating and impacting knowledge on relevant contemporary issues; with a view to enriching the information base and improving the professional competence of Town Planners and related professionals in the built environment.

On his part, the President of Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, Mr Isyaku Kura, represented by his Vice, Dr Ezekiel Gunn, noted that Nigeria’s future depends on her ability to create well-planned, resilient and inclusive communities, and described the training as a crucial step towards achieving the vision.
