Governor Chukwuma Soludo has inaugurated a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the protracted dispute surrounding the traditional stool of Awka, known as “Eze Uzu” throne.
The Commission inaugurated at the Deputy Governor’s Conference Hall , Light House, Awka has a former Chief Judge of Anambra State, retired Justice Paul Obidigwe as Chairman while other members are,
Professor Kate Omenugha, Secretary, Igwe Ben Emeka of Umueri, Member, Barrister Nnaemeka Egonu, Member and Reverend. Father Maurice Izunwa, Member.
According to a release made available to the ABS, the Governor represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, emphasized the importance of upholding due process, respect for tradition and charged the Commission to conduct a thorough, impartial, and comprehensive inquiry into the issues that have led to tensions over the revered traditional stool and determine the remote and immediate causes of the dispute over the traditional stool.
The Commission which is expected to conclude its inquiry and submit its report to the Governor on or before March seventeen, 2026 ,was also mandated to ascertain whether Chief Gibson Nwosu, known as “Eze Uzu Two” of Awka, was appropriately dethroned and determine whether Chief Austin Ndigwe was duly selected and installed as the legitimate traditional ruler of Awka and whether he is legitimately functioning in that capacity and should make recommendations to the State Government on necessary steps to bring the dispute to a definitive end.
