The four hundred and twenty-one students admitted into Paul University, Awka, at the 16th Matriculation Ceremony of the institution have been charged to take advantage of their admission into the Christian institution to become rooted in God.
The Proprietor of the University and Archbishop of the Province of the Niger, and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, who stated this while speaking on the theme, “Rooted in Christ and Rise in Excellence,” explained that God is looking for men, women, boys, and girls who are rooted in Christ, noting that anyone who is not rooted in Christ will rise in disgrace, and maintained that Paul University is committed to raising people who are intellectually sound and morally upright.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Obiora Nwosu, in his address to the students, said admission into Paul University is both a privilege and a responsibility, and as they begin this academic journey, they are expected to obey the rules and regulations of the university, attend lectures regularly, make good use of the university library and other learning facilities, do their assignments diligently, and maintained that the university has zero tolerance for cultism, indecent dressing, and other forms of misconduct.

The Bible reading was taken by the University Chaplain, Venerable Dr. Onyeka Egwuonwu, while the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Doris Nweke, led the matriculating students in their declaration of the Matriculation Pledge, and Venerable Dr. Gilbert Mmadubuike presented the students for admission into the university community.

The new students, during their matriculation pledge, among other things, promised to be law-abiding citizens, striving unceasingly to exhibit upright character, a sense of honour, and flawless integrity, and accordingly renounced and rejected cults, secret societies, and all evil associations, even as they prayed to God to help them.
