Members of the Anambra State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, have staged a peaceful protest against a parallel executive allegedly floated by five expelled members of the union, which they said is creating problems for the duly elected leadership.
Correspondent Ngozi Obileri reports that the peaceful protest took off from NULGE Secretariat in Awka, and terminated at the Light House where the union members were received by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Administration, Mrs Joy Soba.

Briefing the government on the matter, the National Trustee of NULGE, Comrade Victor Mmuo, said the issue has already attracted the attention of the union’s national body, which has written to the Anambra State Government and relevant agencies to affirm that the Eucharia Uyawune-led executive remains the authentic leadership of the union in Anambra, duly recognized by the national body.

Speaking earlier, the state Acting President of the union, Comrade Eucharia Uyawune and Ike Abugu said that they were surprised that check-off dues of workers were paid into a private account, while staff working under them have not been paid for five months, being the period the check off dues were diverted, appealing to the Governor to come to their aid and solve the issue once and for all.
