Obi Nnaemeaka Achebe Annual Lecture: Stakeholders Back Call For Restructuring Of Nigeria, Task Ndigbo On Unity

The call for genuine restructuring of Nigeria has once again been re-echoestd, with stakeholders stressing the need for a nation where citizens will feel comfortable and proud, irrespectibbcgve of religion or tribe.

Correspondent Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that this was the focal point of the second annual public lecture of the Southeast Traditional Rulers Council’s Patron and Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, Obi Alfred Achebe, held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka with the theme: “Restructuring for True Federalism: A Challenge to Igbo Leadership”, where the  Guest speaker, Professor Obasi Igwe, who maintained that the marginalization being experienced in today’s Nigeria is not limited to the Igbos, but cuts across ethnic lines, recommended genuine restructuring as the way forward. 

In his remarks, the benefactor, Obi Achebe, while noting that Ndigbo sometimes marginalize themselves through their own actions, urged them to unite and channel their investments into Igbo land, instead of prioritizing the development of other regions, and further emphasized the need for the Southeast Governors to ensure adequate security of lives and property to attract investors. 

In their separate remarks, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, who chaired the occasion, Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, represented by the Commissioner for Infrastructure and Rural Development, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the event, Professor Godwin Onu, Mr. John Nwosu, among others, emphasized the importance of unity among Ndigbo, and identified internal division as a major setback for the people.
