Monday-sit-home: Commercial Activities In Full Swing As Normalcy Returns To Onitsha Markets

The Anambra State Government’s directive encouraging trading activities on Mondays is gradually gaining momentum, as traders across major markets in the state have complied with the directive.

A visit to some markets revealed a noticeable return of business activities, with traders displaying their goods and patiently waiting for customers.

At the Onitsha Printing and Paper Dealers Market, some traders, including Reverend Calistus Onuoha and Mr. Nicolas Oriaku, said they are now open for business every Monday in line with the state government’s directive. They, however, decried low patronage but expressed optimism that normalcy will fully return with time.

The Market Chairman, Mr. Izuchukwu Ifegbo, commended members for their compliance, noting that transportation remains a major challenge in conveying traders and goods to various destinations.

Similarly, at the Grain and Seed Market, business, activities were ongoing as traders displayed various food items for sale. The Chairman, Mr. Chijioke Okpara, confirmed that trading has resumed on Mondays and urged residents to support the initiative by coming out to transact business.

Some traders, including Mrs. Ifeoma Nwigbo and Mr. Garuba Musa, applauded the government’s directive, explaining that poor patronage leads to spoilage of goods and significant financial losses.
