Ezi-Umunya youths have staged a peaceful protest demanding for immediate intervention of the Anambra State government in the leadership tousle in the village.
The protesters led by the Secretary General of Ezi-Umunya Youth, Mr Chukwudi Nwankwo were seen with placards with inscriptions such as “United Ezi-Umunya we want peace and not war”, “Please Mr Commissioner we are tired of hoodlums as executives”, “Ezi-Umunya don’t want crisis, we want everlasting peace”.

They matched from Ezi-Umunya village hall, through Umunya town hall, Oyi Local Government Area Headquarters, to Umunya President General’s residence where they took time to peacefully register their grievance.Speaking through the Secretary General, Mr Nwankwo, the youths said that the protest was to call for immediate action by the state government in the leadership issue in Ezi-Umunya village, and to ask the government through the state Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne to step down one Chief Gozie Nweke of Umudunu kindred, Pharmacist Shedrack Obinna of the same Umudunu kindred, Mr Geophrey Ejiofor of Umunagu kindred, and others, who they said have been in power tousle in the community for a long time now, but recently ganged up to approach commissioner Nwabunwanne to inaugurate them as interim executives of the village pending the village election, despite the fact that the court case they have against themselves will still be decided by the court on 11th March, 2026.

Addressing the youths, the President General of Umunya Development Union, Dr Gilbert Ekwugha who commended their comportment during the exercise, assured them of swift action by his leadership and Anambra State government to restore permanent peace in the area, and asked the youths to embrace peace, and avoid violence in order to attract meaningful development and progress in the village.
