Friends and well wishers recently converged at St Augustine of Hyppo Catholic Church Afor Nkpor, Idemili North Council Area for a thanksgiving Mass in honour of Mrs. Stella Ugwu and her Son Master Valentine Ugwu for their survival of fire disaster caused by kerosene explosion.
The thanksgiving Mass attracted political stalwarts in the State such as former member that represented Anambra Central Senatorial district Senator Victor Umeh, government functionaries among others.
Delivering a homily during the thanksgiving mass, the Parish Priest Saint Augustine of Hyppo Catholic Church Afor Nkpor, Reverend father Mike Chika stressed the need for Christians to live a thankful and prayerful life as according to him a prayer-less Christian is powerless.
Reverend father Chika, who thanked God for sparing the lives of Mrs. Stella Ugwu and her son Valentine during the fire incident in July 23rd 2018, pointed out that God has been performing a lot of miracles in the lives of people regretting that some Christians take God’s benevolence for granted.
In a speech, the former member who represented Anambra Central Senatorial zone Senator Victor Umeh ,expressed joy and gratitude to God for the rescue and quick recovery of both mother and son highlighting series of efforts of the State government to ensure they receive adequate attention while in the hospital.
In her testimonial speech, Mrs. Stella Ugwu who is the Special Assistant to the Governor on parks said she cannot thank God enough for sparing their lives, narrating her ordeal during the period of their crisis as they were rejected at various hospitals due to the degree of their burnt but was latter admitted at Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital Nnewi where they were given due attention.
She thanked her colleagues, friends and the State Government for their moral, financial and spiritual support.
Her son, Master Valentine Ugwu who narrated that they were burnt from Kerosene explosion said he bought the product from a road side seller and was trying to lite the lantern when the incident occurred and thanked God that they survived the incident.
Later at a reception, the chairman on the occasion and the Commissioner for transport Mr. Uchenna Okafor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Transport Mr. Dan Ezeanyanwu, commended Mrs. Ugwu for deeming it necessary to thank God and urged all to show her love.
