INEC, Police Reassure Anambra Voters Of Peaceful Election On Saturday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police Force have assured the people of Anambra State of a peaceful, transparent, and credible governorship election on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

Speaking in Awka, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Queen-Elizabeth Agwu, said the commission has concluded all arrangements for the election after a year of intensive preparation, and explained that both sensitive and non-sensitive materials have been distributed to the 21 local government areas under public supervision to ensure transparency.

Dr. Agwu stated that over 5,718 polling units across the state will be fully equipped and operational by 7 a.m., ahead of the 8:30 a.m. for commencement of voting, urging citizens to come out early, assuring that every vote will count.

On security, the Commissioner of Police, Dr. Abayomi Shogunle, confirmed that more than 50,000 security personnel drawn from various federal agencies have been deployed across Anambra to protect voters and election materials.

He said elections will hold in all 21 local government areas, including the riverine communities, with adequate security on land, air, and waterways. Dr. Shogunle emphasized that local vigilante groups will not participate in election security, and warned that VIPs are barred from moving around with escorts on election day.

He assured that the visible presence of police and other security agencies should not cause fear but rather boost citizens’ confidence to come out and vote peacefully.

Both INEC and the Police urged Anambra residents to see the election as a civic duty and a chance to strengthen democracy through massive, peaceful participation.
