The Aguluezechukwu community in Aguata Local Government Area is facing an existential threat from gully erosion, with Aguata High School and Community Secondary School at risk of being severely damaged.
A team from the Anambra State Erosion, Watershed and Climate Change Agency, visited the area and observed that the erosion has divided the community, ravaging buildings, drainage systems and farmlands.

The leader of the team and Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer of Agency, Professor Philip Phil-Eze, who warned the community to stop sand mining, cited its contribution to the erosion menace, and reminded them of the Anambra State Environmental Law, as well as Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s ban on sand mining in Orumba and Aguata Local Government Areas.

The Secretary of the Community, Mr. Uche Ezemezue, blamed a contractor who handled one road project for not properly terminating the drainage systems, noting that this has contributed to the erosion problem.
