Group From Ndikelionwu Stages Peaceful Protest, Rejects Town Union Exco Tenure Extension, Demands PG Election

People of Ndikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State have staged a peaceful protest, demanding an urgent President General election in the community and rejecting the extension of the previous town union executives’ tenure.

During the protest, the people were seen carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Tenure Elongation Is an Extension of Evil,” “For the sake of peace, give us an election date, our dear Governor,” “No to tenure elongation, yes to election,” “Ndikelionwu indigenes demand democratic election ASAP,” and “Ndikelionwu supports Solution, good governance, and democratic transition in Anambra communities,” among others, all calling for an immediate PG election in the town while also proclaiming the community’s support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The peaceful protest kicked off at Saint Margaret’s Catholic Church, Ndikelionwu, and terminated at the Orumba North Local Government Area Headquarters, Ajalli, where the Mayor of the council area, Barrister Casmir Nwafor, addressed the protesters and reminded them that the government of Professor Chukwuma Soludo holds them dearly, as the community was one of those in the area that gave massive votes to the Governor, assuring the people that their concerns would be listened to and their requests granted.

Earlier, some stakeholders in the community, including Chief Emmanuel Nweneh, the Ndikelionwu Palace Secretary, Prince Fortune Onyeabo-Ikeh, National President of Ndikelionwu Youth Association, Comrade Alfred Obidigbo, and a one-time Vice President General of the community, Mr Chukwuemeka Nwankwo, explained that the failure of the community’s President General election held on 27 December 2025 was due to the inability of the outgoing town union executives to provide the community’s financial list, which they alleged was intentionally done to forestall the election and remain in power, adding that the community is ready to come out and vote for their preferred candidates if the government intervenes to conduct a credible and transparent election as soon as possible.
