Enugwu-Ukwu Community Marks 68th Igu Aro Festival

Enugwu-Ukwu Community in Njikoka Local Government Area has marked its 68th Igu Aro Festival, an annual event through which the community showcases its rich cultural heritage, appreciates God for His providence in the past year, and prays for a fruitful and prosperous new year for the town and its inhabitants.

Breaking the kola at this year’s celebration, which saw prominent individuals who have supported the community’s development honoured with chieftaincy titles, including Anambra-born businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, the traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, thanked God for His blessings on the people in the past year and prayed for a more fruitful and favourable year for the community. 

In separate interviews, some illustrious sons of the community, including former Managing Director of ABS, Chief Uche Nworah; Chief Basil Mbuba; popular Nollywood actor, Chief Ugoezue Ugoezue; and a friend of the community, Dr. Ndubuisi Ugo, rated Enugwu-Ukwu’s culture and tradition highly, stressing the need for Ndi Igbo to embrace, protect, and promote their cultural heritage, which they described as their identity and a source of pride among other ethnic groups in Nigeria.

Also speaking, a guest at the event and the Oba of Ikorodu Kingdom, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, emphasized the need for stronger cooperation between the Igbo and Yoruba to enable them take their rightful place in the country, and assured that he would henceforth serve as a father figure to all Igbos in Lagos.
