Discussions on Peace, Security, and Regional Unity were tops on the agenda of the fifty third Ministerial Session of the ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council, MSC, convened in Abuja.
The meeting focusing on the pressing challenges confronting the West African region, underscored the region’s commitment to collective security, democratic governance, and economic development amid increasing political, security, and humanitarian crises.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who is the Chair of the Mediation and Security Council MSC, while declaring open the meeting, decried the growing threats posed by terrorism, violent extremism, and organised crime, and urged member states to redouble efforts in collective security.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray, painted a picture of both progress and challenges.
