More than eight hundred persons have been confirmed dead and nearly three thousand others injured following a six–point–zero magnitude earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan.
According to the United Nations Humanitarian Agency, most of the deaths occurred in Kunar Province, with officials warning that the casualty figure may rise further as entire villages were destroyed.
