Dobe Anambra Ocha Campaign Hits Onitsha, Defaulters To Be Prosecuted

 In its efforts to maintain a clean environment, the state Government
through the Ministry of Environment and its Parastatals has taken its campaign of “Dobe Anambra Ocha” to Onitsha metropolis to sensitise the people on the importance of caring for their environment at all times.


According to the State government, after the massive and robust
sensitization, defaulters of any kind will be apprehended and made to
face the wrath of the law.

The campaign had taken the team to Ogidi Idemili North to Onitsha
North and South.

 Chibuzo Obidike reports that as 
 Onitsha generates about three thousand tons of waste daily  the Ministry of Environment has expended the State message of “Dobe Anambra Ocha” to end all manner of abuse of  the environment.

At Ajasa, Ose market, Mrs Ogochukwu Akpe and Mr. Chinagolum Johnathan
said that solid waste management has been recognized as decisive to
the realization of the state government’s vision of making Anambra a
clean and secured State with a robust economy built on service, equity and justice. 

Earlier while  sensitizing   the traders , the Director Environment Health Pollution of the Ministry Mrs Edith Ike said  that
in order to provide a holistic solution to waste management in the state, operation Dobe Anambra Ocha Initiative, was conceived which represents a strong resolve and commitment to redefining solid waste management in the state.

According to Mrs Ike, Anambra residents need to appreciate the
importance of paying for utilities and social services like water and
solid waste disposal. 

Also speaking,  the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Chief Chido Obidiegwu  said the existing condition  evidently witnessed at Onitsha
does not ally with the state government’s vision of a Smart City and
admonished them to see their surroundings as their individual homes.

 In her reaction, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Beautification of Environment,
Mrs Chinwe Aniemena revealed that an instructive aspect of their
objective is to inculcate in residents, a culture of proper  waste disposal and charged the people to imbibe positive
attitudinal change towards their environment.

Some of the major markets and streets visited were Iyi-Enu-Ogidi axis,
Nkpor roundabout, Odume Obosi, Awka Road, Egerton, Ajasa market, Main
market, new market road, Oguta Road and Ochanja market among others
during which  the environment officers demonstrating and educating the
people on the best ways to dispose waste as well as clean their
surroundings.
