Commentary: Soludo’s Second Tenure – Consolidating Gains Of Good Governance

As Governor Chukwuma Soludo begins the journey of his second term in office today, Ndi Anambra have great expectations of brighter future prospects because of his outstanding achievements in his first four years which went far beyond what he promised the people during his campaign. Governor Soludo’s commendable achievements cut across human capital development, infrastructure, security, and economic transformation, among others. These were anchored on global principles of good governance including, transparency, accountability, rule of law, responsiveness, consensus-oriented decision-making, equity and inclusiveness, effectiveness and efficiency, as well as citizen participation.

On Infrastructural development,  under Governor Soludo’s administration  over one thousand kilometres of roads are  under construction, with a significant portion of seven hundred kilometres already completed, including the dualisation of major highways and construction of flyovers. 

In the Education sector,  the Soludo administration implemented free education from kindergarten to public secondary schools. up to SS three,   recruited  eight thousand, one hundred and fifteen new teachers,  initiated the transformation of twenty secondary schools into smart schools,  while sixty secondary school laboratories were equipped with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) equipment and Laptop computers were distributed to principals and head-teachers.

Again in the health sector,  Anambra was recognised as the best-performing state in primary healthcare delivery in the Southeast and the overall best in Nigeria in 2025, receiving prize money from partners including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and UNICEF.  The construction and modernisation of three hundred and twenty-six primary healthcare centres across the state has  reached advanced stages, with the facilities being equipped with solar power, boreholes, and essential equipment. 

Over one hundred and sixty-one thousand women have benefited from the Governor’s  free antenatal care and delivery services  in public health facilities  and presently the state has a near-zero maternal mortality rate.

Four out of five new general hospitals in local government areas that previously had none were completed and some have been commissioned. The Trauma Centre at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital was also completed. 

Over one thousand health workers, including doctors, nurses, and consultants, were recruited. And the state migrated to a digitalised healthcare system with the introduction of telemedicine for remote consultations.  The state government also activated specialised units such as a mammography unit at General Hospital, Onitsha, a refurbished dialysis centre, and construction of an eye care centre. 

In the area of economic empowerment ,  the One-Youth-Two-Skills Plus programme has  providing digital training and grants to over eight thousand there hundred beneficiaries, while the Solution Innovation District (SID) trained over twenty thousand youths in digital skills 

Through the  Soludo’s urban renewal programme   the  Okpoko slum in Onitsha,  has been transformed into a modern city,  with asphalted roads, a general hospital, streetlights, and pipe-borne water. 

The administration equally tackled  insecurity challenges with the deployment of the state security system, Agunechemba and the success of Operation Udo Ga-Achi and today Anambra is  widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s safest states, which no doubt will attract more  investments.

 The newly completed Government House complex, named Light House, and the Solution Fun City were commissioned last year  by President  Ahmed Tinubu. and within the Solution Fun City facility, Governor Soludo also personally commissioned the  Anambra Country Club. 

Governor Soludo’s  first tenure has.  reinforced a solid foundation for a prosperous future, truly transforming Anambra State and the lives of Ndi Anambra for the better. 

The journey towards a livable and prosperous Anambra state  has been  accelerated with the swearing of the Governor for a second term and the future is already under construction, powered by  Governor Soludo’s intentional, progressive, dynamic leadership.
