When Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo assumed office as Governor of Anambra State on March seventeen, 2022, he came into power well prepared with a bold vision of building what he described as a “livable and prosperous homeland.
Admittedly, the first term of Soludo recorded notable achievements across critical sectors including infrastructure, education, youth empowerment, health, commerce and security.
One of the most visible achievements of the administration has been the massive expansion of road infrastructure across the state. Several strategic roads have been constructed, dualized or rehabilitated to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities.
In addition, the urban renewal project in the once-neglected Okpoko area near Onitsha has transformed what used to be regarded as one of the most congested urban slums in the state.
Drainage construction, street lighting, and beautification projects have helped restore public confidence in governance and improved the overall aesthetics of major towns.
Beyond infrastructure, the education sector has witnessed a new wave of reform under the Soludo administration. The government introduced the Smart School initiative aimed at integrating technology into public education.
The administration has also recruited and trained over eight thousand five hundred teachers to improve the quality of teaching in public schools.
At a time when insecurity threatened economic and social life in the South-East, the Anambra government initiated several security reforms.
The establishment of Agunechemba, under the Udogachi security system and the collaboration with security agencies, have contributed to restoration of peace and calm in all communities in the state.
The administration’s crackdown on criminal activities and fraudulent spiritual practices also sent a strong message that lawlessness is never tolerated.
Through its Public–Private–Community Partnership model, the administration has encouraged collaboration between government, businesses, and local communities in executing development projects, which helped accelerate some infrastructure projects while strengthening community participation in development.
Projects such as the development of the Solution Fun City leisure and entertainment complex in Awka and the revitalization of cultural festivals have positioned Anambra as a potential tourism destination.
Through the “One Youth, Two Skills” programme, thousands of youths have received training in vocational and technical skills ranging from ICT and electrical works to fashion design and catering. Beneficiaries are often supported with starter packs or financial assistance to help them establish their own businesses.
In the healthcare sector, the Governor embarked on the renovation and upgrading of general hospitals and primary healthcare centres across the state. Trauma Centre and other facilities such as roads and buildings were constructed by Soludo at Amaku Teaching Hospital to improve medical equipment and infrastructure.
In the area of commerce, Professor Soludo has continued to strengthen the economic environment that supports trade and enterprise, including improving infrastructure around markets and industrial clusters.
Perhaps one of the most significant achievements of Soludo has been the end of the Monday sit-at-home that disrupted social and economic life across the South-East. Through enhanced security operations, community engagement, and sustained public enlightenment campaigns, the government encouraged residents to resume normal activities on Mondays.
Despite these achievements, the people of Anambra still have high expectations as the administration looks toward the future.
Ndi Anambra and residents of the State expect the government to build on gains recorded in all sectors and ensure that peace and stability continue to prevail.
Ultimately, the first term of Professor Chukwuma Soludo has laid an important foundation for development in Anambra State. The expectations for a second term are therefore clear: consolidate existing achievements, expand development to every community, and translate economic vision into tangible prosperity for the people. If these goals are achieved, Soludo’s leadership may well leave a lasting imprint on the development trajectory of Anambra State.
