Commentary: Renewed Mandate – Celebrating  Soludo’s Transformational Impact On Nwafor Orizu College Of Education

For decades, Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe,  NOCEN has stood as one of the foremost institutions dedicated to the preparation and training of teachers for Anambra State and Nigeria. True to its enduring mission, Training Teachers for Today and Tomorrow, the College has continued to shape educators who mould the minds and future of generations.

For a considerable period in its history, successive governments in the state failed to give the College the strategic government attention required to reposition it.

However, with the emergence of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, a new chapter of transformation began for the College. Determined to gain a clear and comprehensive understanding of the challenges confronting educational institutions in the state, the Governor constituted an Anambra State Executive Council Committee on Education, headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu.

In a demonstration of leadership that underscores his deep commitment to education, the Governor went further by personally visiting the College to verify the findings of the Committee and engage directly with stakeholders.

From that moment, the trajectory of the College began to change. What followed was a series of strategic interventions that have repositioned the institution for sustainable growth, academic excellence, and institutional stability.

As Anambra State celebrates the second term inauguration of Governor Soludo, the Management, Staff and Students of the College proudly reflect on the remarkable milestones recorded under his visionary leadership including strategic constitution of a Governing Council to further strengthen governance and institutional oversight, payment of Staff Salary Arrears, which restored full salary payments, significantly boosting morale and reinforcing the commitment of staff educational Support for the

Demonstration School which reaffirmed the Governor’s policy direction that no child in Anambra State should be left behind in the pursuit of basic education and quality education, support for accreditation of programmes to  ensure that the College continues to meet national academic standards, provision of free Wi-Fi connectivity to promote digital access in modern education, which has significantly enhanced research, digital learning, and academic collaboration among staff and students, positioning the College within the global knowledge ecosystem.

The Governor equally Increased Subvention and Institutional Funding thereby improving financial stability within the College, Construction of a Modern Monumental Entrance Gate which now stands as a befitting architectural landmark, construction of Internal Campus Roads which have greatly improved mobility across the campus, linking academic buildings, hostels, and administrative offices while enhancing safety and the overall aesthetic environment of the College, renovation of dilapidated structures which has created a more conducive environment.

 The Governor also initiated a comprehensive modernization plan for the College, which includes: Renovation of existing infrastructure Construction of a modern Student Centre and development of a commercial mall within the campus.

The interventions of Governor Soludo represent one of the most comprehensive transformations ever witnessed in the history of Nwafor Orizu College of Education.

Indeed, the transformation of the College stands as a testament to the Governor’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to educational development in Anambra State.

With renewed hope and strengthened capacity, NOCEN continues its mission of producing competent, innovative, and dedicated educators who will shape the future of the society.

The entire NOCEN community therefore, congratulates the commencement of his second term in office and looks forward with optimism to even greater milestones in the years ahead.
