In today’s society, there is always distrust between the common people and those in leadership positions. Most times, some individuals occupying a position of political influence is hardly ever trusted to bear the mark of honesty, accountability and Transparency.
Today, the wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo is. changing the entire narrative by redefining selfless service to the people and touching lives in different ways.
Since inception of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration over three years ago his wife, Dr Nonye Soludo, who has continued to maintain very low profile when compared to other first ladies in the country, has made strong and remarkable impact that socio-political analysts are already defining political careers for her in the future.
The Anambra First Lady has natural and simple lifestyle which probably bonded her relationship with Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who, despite being in different political parties with the Anambra First Lady, takes her as one of the most trusted and reliable State First Ladies.
One of the exceptional virtues that stand the Anambra Governor’s wife out from her contemporaries is her honesty. She confronts issues the way they are without sticking to the traditional politics of undue patronage, evasion and lies. She has often attributed this nature to her late mother; a renowned teacher and respected disciplinarian.
Early this year, on February twenty-seven, 2025, the Anambra governor’s wife empowered over two hundred people courtesy of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Support Program. The two hundred beneficiaries, selected from all parts of Anambra State, were first trained then empowered with different start up tools to venture into their chosen enterprises. The budget for the program, running into millions of naira, was equally distributed to Governor’s wives from across the thirty-six states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.
But Dr Soludo, in her usual manner of doing things, did something that the President’s wife found exceptional. She sponsored free two days training for the over two hundred beneficiaries and took care of their logistics and welfare all through the training period. She exhausted the entire budget acquiring quality tools and gave each beneficiary extra money to take their equipment home. It was the first time that such ever happened in Anambra State.
During one of her meetings with wives of governors from across the country, the President’s wife played the video of the program in Anambra State on a screen and asked other First Ladies to stand and applaud the Anambra governor’s wife. She has won many hearts for her generosity and for doing more from deep passion. It is a virtuous principle to be willing to give more when asked to give.
On August sixth, 2025, during the Renewed Hope Initiative in collaboration with the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s Business Recapitalization Grant to five hundred female petty traders in Anambra State, Dr Soludo distinguished herself again. The original plan was to disburse fifty thousand naira each, to five hundred women who are into petty trades to help their existing businesses. But in her penchant for uniqueness, the governor’s wife selected an extra five hundred women to bring the total number of beneficiaries to one thousand.
She also provided free medical checks, welfare and gave each beneficiary extra seven thousand naira for their transportation .
In a world where humane and generous individuals are becoming very rare, Dr Nonye Soludo has become light of hope in the society.
