Commentary: Chronic Back Pain – Any Remedy  For The Ageing?

Ageing healthily as defined by World Health Organization is a process of developing and maintaining functional ability that enables wellbeing in older age, which of course, encompasses physical, mental, and social well-being and continued independence. It is about more than just the absence of disease; it involves staying active, engaged with life, maintaining strong relationships and adopting healthy habits to preserve independence and a high quality of life as one gets older. 

It is important that as we grow old, we ought to do our best to encourage and imbibe healthy ageing recipes, especially with a focused look at preventing common back pain and be rational by seeking more potent, effective and satisfactory remedy when it exists. 

The human back is the powerhouse for the entire body supporting our trunk and makes movements of our heads, hands and legs possible. Therefore any prolong affliction of the powerhouse, that is the back, may cause unimaginable disturbance to the movements of these important appendages.

Most deformities in the elderly are the visible effects of prolonged back pain that was not effectively dealt with earlier. This would later cause secondary and sometimes severe consequences when their effects are transmitted to the body structures and organs. Organs such as lungs are constricted and breathing is affected. Stomach and other internal organs are deprived of their correct support. Prolong sitting or standing can predispose a  person to back pain.

Agonizing pain in the back can restrict  activities, reduce  work capacity and diminish  quality of enjoyment of everyday living.

Preventive measures for back pain are more cost-effective.

People are not getting younger,  they are ageing. The effects of ageing that results in bones being brittle and muscles and ligaments decreasing in strength and elasticity, cannot be avoided.
