Awka South Council Chairman Okafor Asks INEC To Extend Time For Continuous Voter Registration Exercise

The Mayor of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to extend the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise in Anambra to ensure effective registration of more voters.

Speaking on ABS Radio programme; “Eko Awka”, Prince Okafor expressed concern over the slow process of the exercise as a result of non-availability of more BVAS machines to accommodate more eligible voters, regretting that in Awka South Local Government Area, a lot of people are being denied opportunity to  register and get their permanent voter card that will enable them exercise their franchise during elections.

Another guest on the Programme and a community leader in Awka, Chief Obi Ochije-Muodilim, who expressed worry over the non-registration of eligible voters in many electoral wards in Awka, especially in Awka Ward Five, called on INEC to deploy enough adhoc staff and BVAS machines across all the electoral wards in Anambra to ensure adequate registration of voters for the smooth conduct of the November eight governorship election in the state.

He used the opportunity to call on Ndi Anambra to safeguard their permanent voter cards ahead of the election, warning them against mortgaging their conscience during the exercise.
