Anambra State Ministry of Basic Education has reminded teachers
without teaching qualification that December thirty-first this year is
the deadline for them to acquire such or be disengaged from the
system.
This is contained in a press release signed by the Public Relations
Officer of the Ministry, Mr Nnaemeka Egwuonwu for the Commissioner,
Professor Kate Omenugha.
The release revealed that the reminder addressed to the Chairman,
Anambra State Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Anambra State
Universal Basic Education Board and Education Secretaries referred to
the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria in a letter dated April
twenty-fourth, 2019 which amplified the Minister’s directive on the
issue.
The reminder also stated that qualified teachers should be registered
and licensed with Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, in line
with section seventeen, sub-section two of the enabling law
establishing the council.
In another development, the Commissioner for Basic Education,
Professor Kate Omenugha has charged teachers to utilize the human
capital development projects of government at all levels to build
their capacities for greater service delivery.
Professor Omenugha gave the charge at a leadership training organized
for teachers in South-East at Umuahia, Abia State by the National
Teachers Institute.
The Commissioner stated that there is need for teachers to be computer
literate to fit in the twenty-first century teaching and learning.
She added that teachers being computer literate will help them to
discharge their duties effectively.
She said that the recipient of 2017 Best Teacher’s Award in Nigeria,
Mr. Clement Okodo, from, Abagana, Anambra State, disclosed that he
emerged winner, following his exposure to Information Communication
Technology skills by the Obiano administration.
One of the participants, a teacher at Community Secondary School,
Ifite-Anam, Mrs. Helen Echekwube commended the Nigeria Teachers
Institute for organizing the training, adding that the training will
help to improve teachers in their career.
She thanked Governor Obiano and Commissioner for Basic Education,
Professor Omenugha, for giving her and other Anambra State teachers,
the opportunity to be computer literate.
