Anambra State Government has extended deepest condolences to the Akaneme family on the passing of the late Mr. Okechukwu Akaneme; a husband, father and pillar of the community.
In a condolence message to the Akaneme family, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, on behalf of the state government, acknowledged Mr. Akaneme’s immense contributions to the development of the society as former President of the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Onitsha Federated Chapel, and a prominent leader in the Onitsha business community.
Expressing deep sadness over Mr. Akaneme’s untimely demise, which it said resulted from the scuffle between him and the police attached to ASWAMA; who had gone to serve a court bench warrant, the Anambra State Government explained that it offered forty million naira for his medical bills; in demonstration of its commitment to supporting him during his time of need.
As the bereaved family navigates this difficult period, the state government said they are not alone as it stands in solidarity with them, even as the police is still investigating the matter, wishing that Mr. Akaneme’s legacy continues to inspire people to build a better and more compassionate society.
