Anambra State Assembly Suspends Lawmaker Over Unparliamentary Conduct

Anambra State House of Assembly has suspended the member representing Ayamelum Constituency, Hon. Bernard Udemezue, for three months without pay over what it described as unparliamentary conduct.

House of Assembly Correspondent, Emmanuel Chigbata reports that the suspension followed the consideration of a report by the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges, chaired by the Majority Leader and Member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Honourable Ikenna Ofodeme.

According to the resolution, Hon. Udemezue is barred from entering the Assembly complex throughout the suspension period, and he is to tender a public apology to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, and members of the 8th Assembly within five working days through his official social media platforms.

On the allegations linking the Anambra State Government to the kidnap and murder of late Hon. Justice Azuka, as well as an alleged impeachment plot, the Assembly urged the Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Security Service to commence immediate investigations, noting that Hon. Udemezue may possess vital information to aid security agencies.
