Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to establish and regulate Anambra State Correctional Service, aimed at ensuring the humane and effective management of offenders.
House of Assembly Correspondent Emmanuel Chigbata reports that the executive bill which scaled through after a thorough clause-by-clause consideration during plenary session provided for the administration of custodial and non-custodial services in the state and for related matters.
Announcing the passage, the Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, stated that the bill will officially come into force on 18th September 2025 and noted that it marks a significant milestone in strengthening the justice and correctional system in the state.
Contributing, the Majority Leader of the House, Honourable Ikenna Ofodeme, emphasized that a well-functioning correctional system is critical to the maintenance of law and order, as well as the reformation and reintegration of offenders into society.
