Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill for a law to prohibit all forms of discrimination against persons living with HIV and those affected by AIDS in the state.
House of Assembly Correspondent Emmanuel Chigbata reports that the bill, which scaled through third reading during yesterday’s plenary session after undergoing thorough legislative scrutiny, aims to ensure access to support, care, and protection for these individuals.
Presiding over the session, the Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, described the passage of the bill as a landmark development that will benefit Ndi Anambra and announced that the law will officially come into effect on the 3rd of July, 2025.
Earlier, the sponsor of the bill and Member representing Ogbaru Constituency One, Honourable Noble Igwe, explained that the bill was borne out of the need to eliminate stigma and promote inclusive healthcare practices across the state.
