The Chairman, Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Internally Generated Revenue, Honourable Kenneth Anazodo has urged prominent citizens of the state to pay their tax as and when due to guarantee accelerated development of the state.
Chief Anazodo made the call while speaking with journalists in Awka.
The lawmaker who described taxation as a civic obligation of every taxable adult in the state, regretted that poor tax payment on the part of industrialists in Anambra State slows rapid development of the state.
Chief Anazodo made it clear that the major responsibility of any government especially developing countries such as Nigeria is the provision of infrastructural services such as electricity, pipe borne
water, hospitals, schools, good roads and as well ensure a rise in per capital income, poverty alleviation among others.
He maintained that for these services to be adequately provided, government should have enough revenue to finance them.
The Lawmaker noted that Anambra state receives the least federal allocation in Nigeria and this meager resources is not adequate to cover the financial obligations of government, hence the need for prominent citizens of the state to always pay their taxes.
He applauded the Obiano administration for prompt payment of workers’ salaries, pension and gratuity as well as transforming all sectors with the state meager resources.
