Anambra Information Commissioner Mefor Seeks Active Citizens Participation In Fight Against Insecurity

Anambra State Government is taking deliberate and coordinated steps to redefine public security through civic engagement, legal reform and youth reorientation.

This renewed drive, led by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, is centered on rebuilding trust, and strengthening vigilance.

Dr. Mefor explained that indifference to criminal activity, often justified by fear for personal safety, has long enabled wrongdoers to thrive within communities and noted that reclaiming Anambra’s moral and civic order requires citizens to overcome fear and participate actively in the collective fight against insecurity, which prioritizes prevention, collaboration, and early education as sustainable paths to peace.

At a public sensitization event held in Awka to promote civic awareness, security experts and youth advocates called attention to the importance of preventive education as according to one of the facilitators, Dr. Maduka Atueyi, prevention through awareness is more cost effective and socially beneficial than the reactive approach of arrests and prosecution and commended the  Soludo administration for strengthening community-based intelligence systems through the establishment of a Command and Control Centre, that citizens can now anonymously report suspicious activities.

One of the event conveners, Mr. Henry Ogwudu, a journalist and public affairs strategist, described the programme as part of a long term youth redirection strategy, aimed to steer young people away from harmful paths such as internet fraud, cultism, and drug abuse  into positive engagements like technology innovation, skills development, and entrepreneurship.
