Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Obi Nwankwo has called on Residents of the state to take sanitation serious as the state observe end-of-month sanitation exercise.The Commissioner made the call while on inspection to ascertain the level of compliance by Anambra residents to the exercise in various areas . Speaking while carrying out the inspection within Awka and it’s environs, Mr. Nwankwo who commended those that complied with the governments directive, decried the low participation in some areas. Mr. Nwankwo promises hard time for defaulters as enforcement of sanitation laws will commence soon. In a remark, the Vice Chairman Ngozika Estate Residents Association, Mr. Charles Mbakigwe, who commended the effort of the Commissioner and noted that keeping the environment clean is for the benefit of everyone and assured that the residents of the estate will always do their bit on that as well as support other developmental projects the Obiano led administration is championing. Some of the areas visited were Eke-Awka, were members Of Anambra State Waste Management Authority were met evacuating waste from desilted drainages and refuse dumped at designated points, Ngozika and Udoka Housing Estate were some people were seen cutting grasses, Amenyi market and motor parks among other places.
The Commissioner acompanied by the MD and CEO of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Chief Uche Nworah carried out a thorough monitoring. Correspondent Valentine Mbadugha who joined the Commissioner during the inspection reports that the end of the month sanitation exercise for July was carried out successfully, but the exercise witnessed a partial compliance by Anambra residents.
