Anambra Assembly Calls For Proactive Measures To Tackle Cultism

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command to intensify efforts in checkmating the upsurge of cultism activities in the state.

The resolution was sequel to a motion sponsored by the member representing Njikoka One Constituency, Dr. Timothy Ifedioramma during plenary.

While moving the motion, Dr. Ifedioramma lamented that a good number of Anambra youths have been lost in their prime, owing to  involvement  in cult  activities, while valuable properties have been destroyed irredeemably in the same process.

Supporting the motion, the Majority Leader, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor called for the establishment of community policing in all communities in Anambra State as it will  help to arrest cultism.

On his part, the member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr. Pete Ibida who lamented that cultists now constitute nuisance to the state, urged the Anambra State Police Command to do the needful.

In his contribution, the member representing Aguata Two Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Information and Culture, Mr. Okechukwu Okoye called on the Ministry of Information and Communication Strategy to sensitize the youths on the dangers of cultism and benefits of meaningful ventures in order to eliminate cultism in the state.

The member representing Oyi Constituency, Mr. Charles Obimma, his Anambra East counterpart, Chief Obinna Emeneka and the member representing Onitsha South One Constituency, Mr. Uzoma Eli condemned the act in its entirety.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Uchenna Okafor described the motion as apt and read out the resolution of the House, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.
