A one day in-house workshop, for staff of the News and Current Affairs, Department, ABS, has ended with a call on journalists to brace for the emerging challenges of effective delivery on the profession.
The event took place at the corporate headquarter of the establishment, in Awka.
Declaring the workshop open, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ABS, Chief Uche Nworah, who noted that learning is a continuous process, stressed the need for self development and expansion of human capacity in writing.
While reminding journalists of the need to utilize and maximize the opportunity, Chief Nworah, urged participants to implore creativity on quality reportage, as well as develop a mindset for background reporting, as it affects societal issues, as well as state of the nation.
He said such platforms give room for interactions and exchange of ideas among journalists.
Also speaking, the Director News and Current Affairs, ABS, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze, said such privileges have in past offered useful and practical knowledge in tackling challenges of news gathering.
Mr. Okpalaeze, while appreciating the Managing Director for the leverage, urged participants, to ensure implementation of knowledge gained to fit into challenges of the global village, as thorough breed professionals.
In a lecture, a resource person and veteran Journalist and Lecturer, Comrade Victor Agusiobo, who highlighted on rudiments of news gathering, exposed participants on practical facts in journalism profession, making a case for saturation reports.
Contributing, the Head of commentary, Dr. Emeka Arinze, commended the initiative of the establishment in sustaining the training, which according to him has become a routine in the department.
A cross section of participants who bared their minds on the training described it as intellectual reawakening that will broaden their scope and horizon for effective input.
The interactive session offered a forum for question and answer.
