More Igbo Cattle Breeders Establish Ranches In Anambra

While the issue of cattle ranching still appears unattainable in some states of the federation, Anambra state has gone far in its implementation.
Soon after the Umuchu cattle ranch, another big time farmer in the state, Chief Walter Chigbo, has established his own ranch at Amaetiti, in Orumba North Council area.


The Nigeria Union of Journalists Anambra State Council, led by its chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ifesinachi, inspected the farm, as part of a visit to Chief Chigbo.


Nkeonyemetalu Farms and Agro Ventures is a very large farm situated at Amaetiti in Orumba North Local Government Area which engages in cattle ranching, fishery, poultry, piggery as well as plantations of different crops.
The NUJ team during the visit were taken round every section of the farm by the owner, to see for themselves the ranch with both local, efi Igbo and cross breed cows, poultry section with over thirty thousand birds and the fish ponds with over one hundred and fifty-six thousand cat fish.


Other segments which the NUJ team were taken to include, piggery department, the plantain , pineapple, paw paw and sugar cane plantations, as well as facilities for frozen foods among others.


Chief Chigbo said he would soon secure a very large place for the cattle so as to enable him get the best from the animals. He noted that wild grazing puts the cattle through stress which has a negative effect on the end product both on the meat and the milk produced.


Earlier, the Anambra State NUJ Council Chairman, Comrade Ifesinachi, commended the state government on its input in agriculture and appealed for continued support to farmer’s to ensure food security in the state, noting that agriculture is the only remedy to the long lasted economic instability in the country.


Comrade Ifesinachi further stressed the need to boost agricultural development by encouraging small, medium and large scale farmers in the country, through provision of financial support, access roads, electricity and pipe born water.


On his part, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Mr.
Cyril Nwobu reassured that the current administration led by Governor Willie Obiano is doing its best in making agriculture the major source of revenue generation which will in turn improve the living standard of Ndi Anambra.
