Anambra Govt To Distribute Over 50,000 Treated Insecticide Nets To Schools

Anambra State government is to distribute Fifty Three Thousand, Three
Hundred and Fifty Treated Insecticide Nets in  Private and Mission Schools across the State.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala made this known during
the Flagging Off of the distribution to Pupils in Nursery and Primary
Schools at Aguleri, Anambra East Council Area.

Flagging Off the exercise, Dr. Okpala noted that over Nine Hundred
Women and Children die annually in Nigeria as a result of Malaria, hence the need to distribute the nets.

The Commissioner explained that the Ministry had earlier distributed
the nets to government and public schools and urged mothers to always make use of the nets at all times.

Anambra State Programme Manager, Saving One Million Lives Programme
SOMIL for Result, Mrs Obiageli Uchebo said that the nets will help immensely to safeguard mothers and children from malaria and urged mothers and pregnant women to utilize the opportunity well.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Kate Edozie
commended the State government and SOMIL for the laudable initiative
and appealed to mothers to ensure that the nets will be used accordingly.

Health correspondent Chibuzor Okoye who covered the event reports that
it also featured drama and cultural dance.
