Witnesses At Tribunal Sitting In Awka Alleges Irregularities At Anambra South Senatorial Elections

A witness of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Okechukwu Okpala has told the Election Petitions Tribunal Two sitting in Awka that the INEC did not use voter’s register for voting in Nnewi North Local Government Area during the February twenty-third Anambra South Senatorial District election.


Judiciary Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that Mr. Okpala who was PDP collation agent for the Local Government Area, testified in favour of the petition brought before the tribunal by Chief Chris Uba, PDP candidate for the Senatorial election, challenging the declaration of Senator Ifeanyi Uba of the Young Progressive Party as winner.


Testifying under cross examination, Mr. Okpala disclosed that there was over voting in polling units under Uruagu ward one, two and three which compelled the INEC Presiding Officer for Nnewi North Local Government to declare the exercise inconclusive but the Electoral Umpire, discarded it and declared results for the local government area.


Thereafter, the tribunal headed by Justice Thelma Okara adjourned the case till Saturday for continuation of hearing.
Similarly, the Election Petitions Tribunal three also sitting in Awka has adjourned till tomorrow for conclusion of presentation of witnesses by Mr Austin Enendu, APGA candidate for March ninth Anambra State House of Assembly election in the petition he brought before the tribunal challenging the declaration of Mr Onyebuchi Offor of the PDP as winner.
Already, three witnesses appeared before the tribunal and testified that the election was marred by irregularities in their polling units.
