The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala says, effective, efficient and affordable Health Care System is one of the utmost priorities of the Governor Willie Obiano administration.
Dr. Okpala made this known when he and his team went on tour of some General Hospitals across the State.
Health Correspondent Chibuzor Okoye reports that some of the hospitals visited by the Commissioner and his team were, Umueri General Hospital, Anambra East Council Area, Oraifite General Hospital, Ekwusigo Council Area as well as General Hospital Nnokwa, Idemili South Local Government Council.

According to Dr. Okpala, the tour was to know the condition of all the hospital facilities and to access the enormity of the need in the Health- care sector, with a view to finding solution to address it.
The Commissioner explained that the Willie Obiano’s government want to make the State a tourist haven in health care delivery and the Ministry is determined to drive home the governor’s health care vision.


The Traditional Ruler of Umueri, Igwe Benneth Emeka told the Commissioner in Umueri that the Community, through Umueri People in Diaspora have undertaken to enroll one hundred people into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme as well as renovating Nursing Quarters in Umueri General Hospital to help the government bring health care delivery closer to her people and appealed to Governor Obiano to look into the challenges of the hospital.
The President General, Nnokwa Progressive Union, Sir Joseph Uchendu told the Commissioner that the Community through self effort built the Nnokwa General Hospital in 1987, and handed it over to the government under Group Captain Samson Omeruah but has been abandoned over the years by the successive administrations, and appealed for governments intervention.
On the benefits of resuscitating the Nnokwa General Hospital, the First Vice President, Nnokwa Progressive Union, Mr. Gab Okpaleze who is also the Director of News and Current Affairs of the ABS, said the hospital when revamped, will help immensely in solving the health needs of Ndi Nnokwa and other neigbouring towns.
Some of the people that accompanied the Commissioner on the tour were, Dr. Richmond Achugbu, Hospital Administrator Enugu-Ukwu, Pharmacist Chibuzor Okaa, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Pharmaceutical Matters and Oluchi Onyedikachi, who is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Medical Supplies and Facilities among others.
