University VC Abanihe Asks Families To Embrace Agriculture To End Hunger

Families have been urged to embrace agriculture in other to end hunger
and poverty in Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor, Paul University Awka, Venerable Professor
Uche-Abanihe, stated this during the second edition of the National
Association of Business Studies Students Summit, held at the school.


According to Professor Abanihe, Agriculture is the largest employer of
labour in the world, which provides livelihood for about forty percent
of the world’s population.

Professor Abanihe, encouraged families, irrespective of class or
social status to delve into farming as another source of income.

He charged youths to utilize the federal government’s subsidy for
small and medium scale farming to change the hunger and unemployment
narratives as, according to him, mechanized farming has made today’s
farming better and easier.

Earlier in his opening remark, the chairman on the occasion, Professor
Eleazar Offodile, noted that the summit was apt as it would help the
business students utilize their potential in life.  

On his part, the Head, Department of Business Studies, in the
institution, Mr Stanley Agogbua, whose topic centered on “Business
Ownership and Entrepreneurship”, encouraged the students to be
futuristic in their thoughts noting that a successful entrepreneur
must be a good organizer and effective coordinator of businesses.  

In his address, the President of the Association, Comrade Jasper
Ome-Odum, encouraged  students to make positive impact
wherever they find themselves.  

A guest lecturer, Dr Sam Iwuorah, said that over seventy percent of
Nigeria’s populations are farmers living in rural areas, calling on
the federal and state governments to support the promotion of
agriculture for food sufficiently in Nigeria.
