Bishop Uzodike Memorial Seminary, Nnewi, has emerged victorious in the just-concluded 2026 biennial sports fiesta organized for seminaries and convents in the Ecclesiastical Provinces of the Niger and Enugu.
All Saints Seminary, Ekwulobia, came second, while St. Christopher’s Junior Seminary, Onitsha, came third.
The sports fiesta, which took place at Bishop Uzodike Memorial Seminary, Nnewi, was part of efforts aimed at keeping the students physically fit, in addition to providing them with quality teaching, learning, and sound morals.
Speaking during the event, the Chairman of the Conference of Principals of Seminaries and Convents, Provinces of the Niger and Enugu, Venerable Ifeanyi Mgbemene, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise and the large turnout of participants.
He called on students to always take their studies seriously, stating that the sports fiesta is designed to promote harmonious coexistence among them.
The host Principal, Venerable Tochukwu Egwuatu, who commended the conference for giving his school the opportunity to host the sports fiesta, described sports as a unifying factor and thanked the participants for their discipline and good conduct.
The Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Right Reverend Ndubuisi Obi, who was represented by Reverend Nnamdi Maduagwu, the Nnewi Diocesan Education Secretary, Venerable Charles Nnaemeka, and the Sports Director of the conference, Reverend Canon Jonathan Ikpoyi, called for greater synergy between the Church and the government in promoting sports development in faith-based institutions.
Eight schools from the Provinces of the Niger and Enugu participated in the fiesta, while the grand finale featured march-pasts and the presentation of trophies to the winners.
