Members of the Alor Society, the traditional king-making body in Achalla community, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have unanimously disowned Igwe Sunday Nwokedi as the traditional ruler of the community, accusing him of intimidation and assault on subjects, including elders of the town.
During an event held at Obu Umuezeorah, Umuogbe Village, Achalla, where they formally disowned the traditional ruler, members of the Alor Society, led by its head, Ogbuefi Ezennia Chukwuma Nwankamma, represented by Ogbuefi Ikwune Ekegbue, alleged that Igwe Nwokedi failed to perform the traditional rites required of anyone aspiring to become the traditional ruler of Achalla. They further claimed that he had remained a thorn in the flesh of the people since ascending the throne in 2021, and accused him of recently halting the reconstruction of the popular Oye Achalla Market being constructed by the President-General of the community, an action they said contributed to their decision.

The Custodian of Ezeana and Chief Priest of Achalla, Ogbuefi Ezewulu Mmadubueze, who is also the Secretary of the Alor Society, claimed to be one of the victims of the monarch’s alleged brutality and joined others in declaring Igwe Nwokedi a former traditional ruler, alleging that the monarch had shown little interest in the development of the town and had instead associated with individuals whose actions, he said, had caused unrest in the community.

Also speaking, a member of Umujideana Achalla and of the Alor Society, Ogbuefi Onwurah Ekwemalor, alleged that Igwe Nwokedi brought his current predicament upon himself by refusing to fulfil the traditional requirements of the community and by failing to demonstrate civility in his leadership.
