Police DIGs Must Drive Reform, Strengthen Security – IGP Disu

As Nigeria confronts increasingly complex security threats, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has charged newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to provide strategic leadership and strengthen the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking in Abuja on Monday at their decoration ceremony, the IGP said the promotion recognises years of dedication, professionalism, and service to the nation.

He noted that the new rank carries greater responsibility, urging the officers to strengthen intelligence-led policing, deepen inter-agency collaboration, and reinforce discipline within the Force.

According to him, the evolving security landscape, including organised crime and cyber-enabled threats, requires forward-looking leadership and operational excellence.

In their interviews with the press shortly after their decoration, some of the newly decorated DIGs, DIG Kene Onwuemelie and DIG Margaret Challa, expressed profound gratitude to the IGP and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for deeming them worthy of the promotion and promised to justify the trust placed in them and contribute to building a more professional, technologically driven, and citizen-focused police force.
