The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Right. Honourable. Somtochukwu Udeze has called on governments, individuals, groups and communities to join hands in a determined effort to empower women, defend their rights and protect their dignity in recognition of their contributions towards building a progressive society devoid of gender inequality and insensitivity.
Felicitating Nigerian Women as they mark this year’s International Women’s Day, Right. Honourable Udeze paid glowing tribute to those outstanding women who have distinguished themselves in their various areas of service to the Nation, noting that women are predominant in the health sector, and are also the majority in the workforce, a feat he described as encouraging.
The State Number one Lawmaker who maintained that investing in women and girls is not just a help to them but a conscious effort to achieve more peaceful, prosperous and brighter future for generations yet unborn, called on appropriate authorities to abrogate all harmful and obnoxious laws and practices against women especially widows.
He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Nonye for their efforts towards the upliftment of the living condition of Anambra women and girls through various empowerments and provision of quality life for them, such as free antenatal and child delivery, advocacy and protection of women’s rights, and extolled the critical roles women shoulder in their various families as well as the growth of the Nation.
