The global community marks International Women’s Day today.
The day is set aside to celebrate the womenfolk, their roles and vision towards nation building and development.
Created by the United Nations to ensure that women come to the fore and take their rightful positions as well as speak out on issues affecting them, including gender inequality.
This year has two primary themes being promoted by major global organizations.
United Nations theme focuses on legal and systemic reforms, while the International Women’s Day Organization campaign theme centers on individual and collective generosity.
The United Nations has their theme as “Rights, Justice, Action for all women and girls” and it calls for an end to legal gaps and systemic barriers, even as the International Women’s Day Global Campaign designated “Give to Gain” as the 2026 campaign theme and it focuses on emphasizing the power of reciprocity and abundant giving, sharing time, knowledge, resources, and advocacy to help women attain their full potential in life.
