Poor Budget Implementation: Senate  Committee  Queries FG’s Economic Team

The Senate Committee on Appropriations, led by Senator Solomon Adeola, has questioned the Federal Government’s economic team over poor budget implementation and weak capital releases to MDAs, warning that inflated projections undermine delivery.

The lawmakers challenged Finance Minister Wale Edun over slow funding of 2024 and 2025 capital projects, while Nigeria Revenue Service Chairman, Dr Zacch Adedeji, admitted that unrealistic assumptions cripple implementation.

In response, Minister of State for Finance, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, pledged that outstanding 2024 projects would be paid immediately and that the 2025 capital component would be fully implemented by 31 March 2026, with MDAs directed to submit cash plans to unlock funds.
