Workers In Anambra Shun Sit-at-home Directive, Turned Out In Large Numbers For Duty

Workers in government offices in Awka and its environs turned out in large numbers for work on Monday, in compliance with the directive of the Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, against the unofficial Monday sit-at-home order by non-state actors.

A visit by an ABS crew to some government offices in Awka, including the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, and the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, revealed a high level of compliance, as workers were seen actively carrying out their official duties during the monitoring exercise.

Speaking to ABS, the Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Vera Nwadinobi, while describing Monday as a very important day of the week, stressed the need for workers, traders, and schools to adhere to the Governor’s directive, noting that the state government has put adequate security measures in place to ensure the safety of everyone, even as she urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their environment to the appropriate authorities.

Some civil servants, including Lady Calista Chiamah and Chinenye Anyakaorah, said the Governor’s directive is aimed at restoring sanity and promoting the overall development of the state, and therefore should be obeyed by all concerned.
