NDLEA Warns Of Dangers Of Drug Abuse To Family, Community Safety

The Anambra State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mr Charles Onubogu, has warned that drug abuse has far-reaching social consequences capable of destroying families, communities, and the future of the society.

The NDLEA Commander made the remark through the Principal Staff Officer in charge of Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Anambra State Command, Madam Priscilla Onyeoma during an ABS audience participatory program, NDLEA and You”, while speaking on the topic, “Social Consequences of Drug Abuse”, where he noted that drug abuse often leads to broken homes, loss of family values, domestic violence, and neglect of responsibilities, especially among youths who are expected to be productive members of society.

Mr Onubogu further stated that communities plagued by drug abuse experience increased cases of cultism, theft, armed robbery, and other criminal activities, as users resort to crime to sustain their addiction, and explained that such negative social trends create fear, discourage investment, and hinder meaningful development at both community and state levels.

The NDLEA Anambra State Commander therefore called on parents, traditional rulers, religious bodies, schools, and community leaders to intensify efforts in sensitizing the public on the dangers of drug abuse, emphasizing that sustained awareness, early intervention, and strong collaboration with the NDLEA remain critical in building a safe, healthy, and drug-free society.
