The traditional Ruler of Enugwu-ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh has urged Umunri people to come together as one to reclaim their rightful position in national affairs.
Speaking at the 2025 Umunri colloquium at Enugwu-ukwu Civic Center, Igwe Ekpeh emphasized the need for a united Umunri to drive development and social cohesion, highlighting the importance of culture in development, and cited celebrations like Igu Aro and Iwa ji as means to project their culture globally.

Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba, the guest speaker, presented a paper on “Cultural Diplomacy and Community Development”, using Enugwu-ukwu and Umunri as case studies, and advocated for cultural promotion, economic empowerment of youths and women, and packaging their culture for global appeal.

Notable attendees, including Christopher Ndubisi, Chief Chinonso Okoye, Uche Nworah former MD ABS, and Professor Oguno Onyi, lamented the decline of Igba-Boi, a traditional practice that contributed to Igboland’s development, and called for its revival, stressing the importance of empowering youths through education and skill acquisition to strengthen the community.
